My career interest in risk and risk management stems from my family. I was a curious and adventurous kid growing up. The world was a big playground that I could not wait to discover! My father would take my brothers and me “exploring” around the neighborhood, while my mother encouraged my exploration internally through reading and creative science experiments. As much as my parents wanted to show me the attractions within the world, they also knew the value of measuring risk.
“Better safe than sorry” became the family motto.
It was never meant to discourage me from venturing into the unknown, but to calculate the risk of each journey and understand the opportunities versus the obstacles. By weighing the various outcomes of any situation, I am provided with the tools needed to be confident in any decision I make.
